Input tax credit is the GST you paid on purchases, which you set off against the GST you collect on sales. But since 2022, you can only claim credit on bills that your supplier has reported in their GSTR-1 and that appear in your GSTR-2B, the monthly statement of credit available to you on the GST portal.
If a supplier reports late, reports the wrong amount or forgets your GSTIN, the credit doesn’t show up in your 2B, and claiming it anyway invites notices and interest. Since October 2024, the Invoice Management System (IMS) also lets you accept, reject or keep pending each supplier invoice before your GSTR-2B is finalised.
Milaan ERP compares your purchase register with GSTR-2B bill by bill. It matches on supplier GSTIN, bill number, date and tax, and sorts every bill into matched, mismatched, missing in 2B, or in 2B but missing in your books. You claim only what is safe, and follow up the rest.
Done every month, reconciliation turns a year-end problem into a ten-minute routine.

Section 16(2)(aa) of the CGST Act allows credit only on invoices your supplier has reported and that appear in your GSTR-2B. GSTR-2B is generated each month (usually on the 14th) and does not change once issued. With IMS, you can accept, reject or keep pending each invoice before 2B is finalised.
Credit must also meet the other conditions: you have the invoice, you have received the goods or services, the tax has been paid by the supplier, and you have paid the supplier within 180 days. The last date to claim credit for a year is 30 November of the following year, or the date of filing the annual return if earlier.
